Post Post Pandemic

Bay Area, CA

Research 2020

Rather than let the risks associated with the pandemic diminish the human experience, we have responded to the challenges of work from home by proposing new ideas for future workspace. As eternal optimists, we hope the pandemic will yield some positive changes. While we look forward to spending time with friends, attending theater, and eating in restaurants, we don’t miss long commutes and hectic schedules. To replace pre-pandemic habits, society must develop new systems that treat the environment more gently (fewer hours wasted commuting; less pollution clogging our skies) and encourage more humanity.

For a post-post pandemic moment, we propose new workspaces for interaction and collaboration supported by an overall strategy that addresses the environmental crisis. Since one of the silver linings of Shelter in Place has been the massive reduction in emissions, we are imagining workspace nodes that allow reduced commutes but provide new spaces for activated zones of interaction. We’re envisioning a network of dispersed offices around the Bay Area (and beyond) with presentation theaters, focused coordination rooms, and social spaces, but with fewer individual desks. There will not a cookie-cutter approach for the next generation of the workplace, but here are some ideas to kickstart some improvements.
